RADIANT TRIANGLE QUILT

This pattern is such fun to make and sparks your creativity.  It is an alternative way to use the Triangle on a Roll grid paper.  Any size paper can be used but for this example we are using 3 inch finished half square.  Once you see how the process works, you can dream up many different uses for this idea.

REQUIREMENTS:

White fabric            1.5 yards

Blue fabric               1 yard

Black fabric             1 yard

Triangles on a Roll 3 inch Half Squares

1.  Normally, Triangles on a Roll is sewn following the instructions on the grid paper.  For this project you will be sewing a different way as shown in Figure 1 .  You will sew along the diagonal stitching to form very large half square triangle blocks -- so what would have been 8 smaller half squares is now 2 big half squares.  Press the seams toward the darker fabric.

2.  Measure the square and divide by 4.  Rotary cut each block into four equal pieces as shown below in Figure 2.

3.  Rearrange the slices and sew back together as shown below.

FIGURE 3

The resulting unit shown in Figure 3 will need to be made into a square.  Measure to determine the amount of white fabric needed to make the block into a square block.  Sew the white fabric to the pieced block.

 FIGURE 4

The remaining blocks are nine patch, black and white -- they need to be the same size as the radiant blocks.

You will also need a plain black square for each corner (see the finished quilt at top) to equal the longer side of the half radiant unit
